Nail extensions. Myths and truth about nail extensions

Nail extensions. Myths and truth about nail extensions
Nail extensions are not only beautiful and aesthetic, but also completely harmless if a qualified master is behind it. As in any other sphere, professionalism in manicure requires not only training, but also constant updating of knowledge. Beginning masters often find it difficult to find answers to clients' questions because of the many myths associated with nail extensions. Let's consider together what is true and what is just fiction.

.

MYTH! Nails under the material do not breathe

One often hears about the strong harm to the nails of acrylics, which allegedly does not allow the nails to "breathe" and, on the contrary, about the existence of gels that allow oxygen to pass through.
In fact, nails do not breathe at all. The structure of the nail plate indicates that the nails are not able to breathe with the surface even without artificial coating. As for gels and acrylics, they belong to the same chemical group - to acrylates, and therefore cannot "breathe" or "not breathe". In nourishing the nails, an important task is performed by the circulatory system, which delivers the necessary nutrients through capillaries located directly under the nail bed.

MYTH! Artificial nails are a breeding ground for bacteria

Many people claim that bacteria breed between false and natural nails. This is a common enough opinion, but where does it come from? Only because of the mistakes of the master when performing the correction! If there are detachments of the material - they must be removed. It is not recommended to cover detachments with new material during correction - in the cavity formed in a humid environment creates ideal conditions for the development of bacteria. Correctly made correction completely excludes the appearance and multiplication of bacteria between the artificial coating and the natural nail plate - no harm from nail extensions.

MYTH! Health hazards of nail extensions due to insufficient disinfection of hands and tools

Before starting any procedure with nails it is always necessary to disinfect the working surface of the table, tools, hands of the master and the client with spray.
Otherwise, infection of hands or nails of both the client and the master may occur. Before carrying out the procedure always use antiseptic for skin, which provides not only sterility of hands, but also protects the skin from germs for a certain amount of time. Skin tools are sterilised at high temperature, disinfected and stored under an ultraviolet or infrared lamp.

Clients with hand or nail skin conditions should be referred to doctors. Otherwise, the technician runs the risk of infecting himself and infecting another client. In addition, the problem will still not be solved, you can only disguise it under the artificial material, and the disease under it will progress without proper treatment. So, the harm from nail extensions in this case can be obtained through the fault of the master.

Nail lamps and the myth that they are harmful

There are three types of light in the ultraviolet range:

1. Type A light is the long -wave range, which has a wavelength of 315 - 400 nm. This light is harmless and is involved in photosynthesis. It is emitted by the sun from morning to 10:00 am.

2. Type B range - medium range, has a wavelength of 280 - 315 nm. It is emitted by the sun from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

3. Type C range - shortwave, germicidal range, has a wavelength of 100 - 280 nm. Emitted by the sun from 12:00 to 17:00, dangerous to the skin.

UV lamps for polymerisation of light-curing gels emit light with a wavelength of 380 to 400 nm, that is, this light is in the long-wave range (type A). It favours tanning with prolonged exposure. But with a short exposure time, necessary for the hardening of materials, does not cause a tanning effect and is absolutely safe, that is, harm in nail extensions UV-lamp does not cause.

Thus, the main cause of harm from nail extensions are unskilled masters who do not have the necessary amount of knowledge or save on materials, and not certified material.

Problems with artificial nails and their causes

1. The nails are constantly breaking:

- Tension points are in the wrong place. For example, if the stress point is too close to the edge, it weighs the nail down and it can be easily broken.

- The nail is filed too thinly.

- The nails are too long. The length of the artificial nails should match the length of the natural nails. The free edge of the artificial nail should not be longer than the nail bed.

2. Detachments in the cuticle area:

- Poorly cleaned nail plate.

- Incorrect nail length and shape.

- When correcting artificial nails, the previous coating is poorly removed.

3. Cracks on the free edge of the nail:

- The artificial material is too thinly filed at the edges.

- The edges are not sealed with artificial material.

- Cracks were not removed during correction.

- The edges were filed during correction, leaving the nail too narrow. If this happens, the nail must be rebuilt on a template.
