Apparatus for manicure and pedicure: what is it, types, how to choose
We live in a time when everything is changing, nothing stands still and a couple cannot even keep up with new trends. If a couple of years ago, in order to boast of a good manicure, it was necessary to spend a huge amount of time on this and in its execution the masters used scissors, nippers and a scissor, now these accessories are behind and the time for creating a manicure has become much shorter. Today, hardware manicure is in great demand, due to the fact that it is fast and for its creation, masters use a number of modern power tools, one of which is a manicure milling cutter, with the help of which both the master and the client will save their precious time.
So, what is a router?
Manicure milling cutter - it is a power tool with which you can do: correction of extended nails, remove cuticles, polish, polish the nail plate, align the artificial and natural nail plate and remove the gel polish. Also a milling cutter, popularly used for pedicure. Thanks to the milling cutter, you can not only make a beautiful pedicure, but also get rid of corns and calluses.

The main types of cutters for manicure and pedicure
Cutters for manicure and pedicure, based on the scope of application, are divided into two types:
Milling cutter for home manicure. Functional, ergonomic and compact.
Professional cutter for manicure. Differs in relatively large dimensions and better performance.
It is known that nail cutters are in great demand, but, with all this, they have both advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages and disadvantages of using a manicure and pedicure router
Benefits:
- With the help of a milling cutter, it is more convenient and quick to level extended nails in length and shape than with a file.
- An electric milling cutter can process the most inaccessible places, which are simply impossible to reach with a file.
- It is convenient to cut down the thickness and length of the nail with a milling cutter when performing correction, since this is done quickly enough and thereby reduces the time it takes to complete the entire work.
- When performing extensions with a white jacket, it is convenient to cut out the shape of the smile line.
- Simple enough to work even for novice nail masters.
- Takes up little space.
- Budget cost.
- The minimum number of the most necessary cutters (also for the pedicure procedure).
Disadvantages:
- Bad build.
- Poor quality of cutters (nozzles can be made of soft metal, in view of which they do not last long and are quickly deformed).
- Low power.
- The handle vibrates.
- Short wire.
- More likely to break.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Professional Manicure and Pedicure Router
Benefits:
- Reasonable design: there is a special pedal for changing the speed of the cutter revolutions.
- The presence of overheating indicators, which pre-disconnect the device from the power supply in case of temperature rise.
- The ability to perform complex procedures in manicure and pedicure (podiatry).
- High performance.
- No vibration.
- Availability of auxiliary components.
- Long service life and reliable assembly.
- Versatility. Using cutters of different abrasiveness, you can work with both natural and artificial nails.
- High power.
Disadvantages:
- Large weight of the device.
- Bulky (impossibility of transportation).
- The high cost of models.
Rotation speeds and power of the nail cutter
There are freezers:
- with power from 15 to 30 W, and the rotation speed reaches 20.000 rpm.
- with power from 30 to 60 watts at speeds up to 35.000 rpm.
- with power from 60 to 100 watts and up to 45.000 revolutions at a speed.
At an excessively high speed of rotation of the cutter, it can deform, vibration can interfere with the work, and there is a possibility of overheating of the electric motor. But most importantly, the job becomes dangerous and the client can get hurt. But there is one rule - the larger the cutter radius, the lower the speed should be. When performing a manicure, working with small nozzles with diamond tips, the optimal speed will be 18.000 - 30000 rpm. Be aware that extreme caution must be exercised at high speeds (20.000 rpm or more) as any ill-considered action or accidental awkward movement could unexpectedly result in serious injury. Most jobs are done at 10.000-20.000 rpm. All of the above remains in effect when performing a pedicure. But, for this operation, special caps for grinding are used, designed for one-time use, whose size varies from the radius of the cutter and the type of machine. The basic rule is the same - the larger the cap size, the lower the rotation speed should be.
Different treatments require different maximum powers. For example, we remove an artificial nail by cutting down its thickness. And we have a milling cutter of infinitely high power. The harder we press the attachment to the nail, the faster it will cut the nail. However, during such work, heat is generated, which heats this nail. The faster we cut off the nail, the more it heats up. At first it is not comfortable for the client, and then it hurts. So this is the power that is needed to perform the procedure when the client is no longer comfortable, but not yet painful, and is called the maximum power for this procedure.
If the cutter is weaker, then we will not be able to serve the client as quickly, because with the same pressure of the nozzle on the nail, the cutter handle will stop - the cutter will not have enough power. If the router is more powerful than needed for your most difficult procedure, then the excess power will remain too much: it will not be used anywhere, because we will not hurt the client. Therefore, it is worth considering for what kind of work a router is purchased, so as not to buy «unnecessary Watts».
Maximum powers for popular treatments:
- removal of gel polish - 40 watts.
- manicure - 40 watts.
- extension and correction of artificial nails - 65 watts.
- pedicure - from 65 to 100 watts.
Maximum revs for popular treatments:
- Removing gel polish - up to 35.000 rpm.
- manicure - 25.000 rpm.
- extension and correction of artificial nails - up to 35.000 rpm
- pedicure - up to 45.000 rpm.

How to choose the right router?
1. Rpm. For an experienced craftsman, you need a device with at least 30.000 - 35.000 rpm. For a novice manicurist, 20.000 rpm is enough for the simplest operations on the processing of lateral ridges and cuticles. A master who has not gained experience does not need high speed - there is a risk of accidental injury. But it is essential with a large flow of clients, when it is necessary to quickly remove gels, biogels and gel varnishes from nails.
2. The cost. You need to pay attention to the cost of the router. A high-quality router should not be too cheap, as often cheap routers break down quickly and cannot be repaired. A quality and complete milling cutter should have an average price.
3. Router handle. Must be metal, not plastic, and have a collet chuck. As for its weight, the handle should not be too heavy or too light. In choosing a router, the handle plays the most important role, so when buying a router it is best to turn on the handle and hold it in your hand.
4. Power. The router must have good enough power. The maximum speed of the router must be at least 30,000 rpm.
5. Guarantee. The milling cutter must have a guarantee.
6. Appearance. The router body must be strong. When working, it should not creak, and also should not heat up.
7. Additional characteristics. «Try on» the device in your hand. Will it be comfortable for you to maneuver it, will you be able to control the cutter without hindrance, will the device cause excessive stress on the hand?
You also need to pay attention to small but important points: if the handle trembles and vibrates, then the device will be uncomfortably fixed by hand, if there is no special purge in it, then the handle will overheat and stop functioning. Another critical point is the presence of reverse - instantaneous switching of the cutter speed in the other direction. The correct orientation of the machine is determined by the average degree of resistance when applied to the nail plate. Remember that you can only switch reverse after you have dropped the speed. Also, an equally important characteristic of the router is the torque of the handle. It is important not to insert a weak handle into a powerful milling unit, as in this case it will work with overload and quickly fail. When the pen comes to its end, it is very easy to find out - it starts to get very hot, and sooner or later it will simply burn out. And here lies one caveat - it turns out that lightweight pens may not warm up at all, as they are often made of plastic. Only now the plastic practically does not heat up as a result of wear on the handle, but at the same time it continues to break. We recommend heavy metal handles, which not only do an excellent job with vibration during operation, but are also guaranteed to indicate possible wear on the device. It is important to remember that the milling handle should not vibrate under any circumstances, even at maximum speed.
Principles of caring for nail cutters for manicure and pedicure
It is known that any technique, in order to serve its master the maximum amount of time, must be properly looked after. What you should pay attention to when caring for milling cutters.
- Regularly inspect the hoses and wires connecting the control unit to the router handle and to the power supply for damage, and if there is any, do not continue work, but contact the service center to fix them.
- When necessary, dust the control unit and make sure that no objects are lying on it.
- Also regularly remove dirt from the router handle and all wires and hoses..
- If your pedicure milling cutter is equipped with a built-in vacuum cleaner, then regularly replace the dust bag and clean the dust container: this will prevent unpleasant odors in your office and improve the vacuum cleaner's performance.
- If you have a pedicure milling cutter with a spray supply, do not forget to regularly rinse the saline container and keep the safety valve on its lid clean, otherwise the container may not withstand excessive pressure and the leaked saline will damage the control unit.
All these procedures should be carried out only with the control unit disconnected from the mains and unplugged from the socket.Never use alcohol, solvents or other corrosive liquids when wiping surfaces. To do this, use a cloth soaked in soapy water and well wrung out.
Well, we have completed our task - we have dotted all the i's, then your move is to apply knowledge in practice. Now we are sure that it will be easier for you to choose a quality nail cutter and enjoy working with it. What we wish you!
